DENTAL CARE PROGRAM FOR RURAL KIDS

October 18, 2019

Tien Giang, October 15th 2019, The Dariu Foundation in cooperation with local partners organized a Dental Care Day, providing services for 225 preschoolers at a kindergarten in the rural coastal area of Tien Giang Province. The program is part of a school building program, funded by Dr. Stroink and The Straumann Group, to offer dental care and training to children and their parents.

The dental care education program was delivered by voluntary dentists. These kids received free dental screening and referrals for additional dental care if needed. The kids, teachers and parents were involved in fun and educational games, aiming at educating them in taking care of their teeth properly. Many questions asked by the parents were answered and explained in detail by the dentists. Particularly, each child will also receive a package of toothbrushes, toothpastes, and a dental care instructional sheet.

Mrs. Van, the deputy principal of Phuoc Trung Kindergarten said: “Most of the children here grow up in farming families, their parents don’t have adequate knowledge of dental care and its importance. I’m happy that The Dariu Foundation organizes such a good program, and hope the program will reach out to more rural areas.”

To provide clean water, we decided to go with a portable sink – the world’s first portable sink for rural consumers and an initiative of WaterSHED (WaterSHED’s HappyTap portable sink has been chosen as a finalist for the World Design Impact Prize). http://www.watershedasia.org/happytap_sink/
