The Dariu Foundation partners with STEP (SAMPURNA TRAINING AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAMME) in India, a non-profit social microfinance organization, working for the development of the most vulnerable sections of the society.

STEP was incorporated as a non-profit company in September 2010 in Kolkata, West Bengal, one of the poorest areas in India, where about 30% of the urban population falls below the poverty line (1.25 USD per day). In Kolkata, millions of people are living in slums and on the streets, where school drop-out, health issues, and malnutrition are common. STEP allows families to improve their living conditions by helping them to develop an income-generating activity thanks to microcredit.

The Dariu Foundation is supporting STEP by providing them a loan of 200,000 Euros and technical assistance to further develop the organisation and guarantee improved sustainability and efficiency.

We are looking forward to extending our activities into India and go along with STEP’s credo: „A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.”
