Digital Literacy
Tomorrow’s skills are needed today.
According to World Skills Clock by the Education Commission, 67% of the world’s youth are without digital skills. If not addressed, the gap between what is taught and what is needed, between urban and rural areas, could widen further, exacerbating the global youth unemployment crisis.
It is agreed that basic coding is as important as reading, writing and counting. The Dariu Foundation has recognized the importance of programming early on and started coding training for children in 2017. In 2019 we launched our Digital Literacy Initiative in Vietnam, where children age 9-15 have completed more than 1.2 million courses.
As for the years to come, we plan to provide relevant education to the youth in both, the 500 participating mobile and government schools and the newly established Code Clubs in mostly rural areas.
Many teachers still lack the basic tools and knowledge to effectively teach digital skills. The active support and on-going efforts at enhancing teaching skills through Train-the-Trainer workshops have been an integral part of our Digital Literacy Initiative.
By 2027, we will have established 250 clubs with 5,000 participants and 1,000 projects to be carried out per year.
