Tien Giang, 10 January 2015, The Dariu Foundation opens its first container-based library for the rural children in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang, 100 km west of Ho Chi Minh city.

The library is renovated from used container, which is donated by Maersk Vietnam, to contain over 1,000 school and reference books, 6 laptops connected to internet, and can accommodate over 20 users at the library. The $12,000-library is jointly donated by Maersk and The Dariu Foundation, of which Maersk donated a used container and 120 million dong ($5.500).

Via mobile schools, the rural children in the Delta have access to computer and internet skills training courses. However, once every three months the mobile schools move to the new location for new courses, and they have almost no access to computers for practice. Accordingly, the library is developed to secure the results of training program for the rural children on computer and internet skills via its current 10 mobile schools.

After its innovative mobile schools, this is the latest innovative model developed and run by the foundation, aimed at creating better access to books and computers for the disadvantaged rural children in Vietnam.

The second library like such will be inaugurated by the foundation in March 2015.
